about us
Wonderworks Children’s Museum of the Gorge has been entertaining, educating, and connecting families in the region since 1977. Mission Statement:
“Cultivating an environment of imagination, creativity, and wonder through open-ended play and exploration. ”
Many families see us as their “life saver” – a hub of stimulating, affordable activities for all ages including active participation in community events for families and classes in music, art, cooking, parenting, and gardening. We are a true grassroots organization: created, operated, and sustained by volunteers in the community for over 45 years.

From the beginning, Wonderworks has been funded and run by a long line of volunteers — that’s over 40 years of meeting other families, supporting kids, and building this together. We welcome individuals and groups, age 16 and older, who appreciate the power of play! When you volunteer at the Children’s Museum, you take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change in your community. As a volunteer, you will be working with other caring, committed people who want to make an impact.
Some options for volunteering may include:
Assisting the museum assistant during business hours.
Hosting birthday parties.
Using your extraordinary talents to create beautiful exhibits and/or teach classes to further children’s learning and growth.
Being a runner, ticket taker, parking attendant, or auction assistant at events.
Donating your talents and time as a member of our Board of Directors.
You can choose a schedule and opportunity that works best for you! Volunteers can work daily, weekly, twice a month, once a month, on the weekends, for special events, or a variety of other options. We are flexible… we only ask that you commit to the hours you can give.
