As a board member, you have the opportunity to provide support to your community while building leadership skills, networking with people from different backgrounds, and developing decision-making and management skills. Wonderworks Children’s Museum of the Gorge is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, children’s museum that has been entertaining, educating, and connecting families in the Columbia River Gorge region since 1977. Read more about us HERE.

Board members & their children receive complimentary admission to the museum and birthday party bookings.
Board members are able to network with other professionals in the community & receive valuable opportunities for professional development, especially for those in related fields like fundraising, marketing, and community involvement. Occasionally we offer professional development programs, including workshops and training sessions.

Board terms are for a period of three years. The full Board meets once a month. The average time commitment is 4-8 hours per month, including reviewing monthly Board minutes, and policies as they arise.

Wonderworks’ Board of Directors is comprised of Columbia River Gorge community members who volunteer their time to advise us on how to best serve the community and ensure we fulfill our mission. Their time and dedication are greatly appreciated. Among other qualities, we value board members with integrity, balance, effective communication skills, and a desire to be prepared for and involved in our work. We also value an interest in learning new skills.
Candidates should be demographically and socioeconomically representative of the community and should add balance to the board in terms of gender, race, age, ethnicity, geographical residence, employment, and expertise. Candidates possess honesty, sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views; a friendly demeanor; a responsive and responsible personality and possess a sense of humor.

After the candidate fills out Board Application, we review information about yourself to ensure the best match between you and Wonderworks Children’s Museum of the Gorge.
If a candidate possesses the competencies and qualifications Wonderworks seeks, the candidate will interview with the current Board of Directors. Final appointments to open positions will be made by a majority vote of the full Board of Directors.
